ROLE

The Technician / Operations Manager works alongside the Exhibitions Manager to ensure the smooth running  They are responsible for the movement of all works coming in and out the gallery, including the handling, packing and storage of all artworks on site. They coordinate installs and de-installs on and off site forexhibitions and clients. They work alongside the team to ensure the upkeep of the gallery; they are responsible formaintenance, working with contractors and third parties to ensure the upkeep of the spaces. They are alsoresponsible for all fire, health & safety measures in the gallery

RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the gallery on a day-to-day basis.
Ensure the highest standard of presentation for the gallery; making sure it is clean, tidy and presentable atall times and making a conscious effort to touch up the gallery walls when necessary.
Assist with the logistics / operations of the gallery and exhibition projects where necessary.
Working with the Exhibitions Manager on national and international exhibition shipments wherenecessary.
Work with the Exhibitions Manager on the gallery’s exhibition changes; booking in and managing externalTechnicians during artwork hangs, coordinating artwork delivery/collections for the exhibition changes,ensuring all vinyls are installed accordingly and ensuring the artwork is always lit to gallery standards.
Stretch and un-stretch artwork canvases when necessary.
Ensure condition reports are drawn up for all incoming and outgoing artworks.
Ensure all outgoing and incoming exhibition artworks have receipt / release paperwork completed anduploaded to the database.
Managing the set up of all exhibition panels and events including setting up chairs and soundsystems for panels.
Make sure all artworks are safely wrapped and stored according to the insurance policy.
Working on returning artwork to artists post exhibition once the consignment agreement has ended.
Assist the Gallery Registrar and Junior Registrar with bi-annual stockchecks.
Manage ad hoc artwork installs and de-installs in the gallery and at client’s residences.
Ensure that the database is always up to date with locations for artworks moved in and out the galleryduring installs and de-installs.
Ensure gallery maintenance supplies are always stocked: artwork wrapping material, wall paint, officesupplies, tools, hanging equipment etc.
Work on improving storage spaces in the gallery’s back of house areas.
Oversee building management and maintenance for the Hanover Square venue: be responsible for the gallery phones, the building, making improvements and booking in third party contractors where necessary.

Manage the annual insurance policy renewal for Unit London, including the policy for all artworks in off-site storage, working closely with the company’s broker to ensure all costs are reasonable.
Manage and submit claims to the company’s insurance broker when necessary.
